GLP-1 receptor agonists have reshaped the treatment of obesity and diabetes, but their effects extend far beyond weight reduction and glycemic control. This session will examine emerging evidence on immunologic and oncologic actions of GLP-1s, critically evaluate potential safety concerns—including effects on the eye, thyroid, and muscle—and explore their cost-effectiveness in managing chronic diseases. Together, these talks provide a balanced view of the expanding biological, clinical, and economic dimensions of GLP-1–based therapies in contemporary metabolic medicine.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the emerging roles of GLP-1 receptor agonists in immune regulation and cancer biology.
Evaluate current evidence regarding non-pancreatic adverse effects of GLP-1 therapies, including ocular, thyroid, and muscle outcomes.
Discuss the cost-effectiveness and long-term value of GLP-1 agonists across chronic metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.
