So-Youn Kim, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey. She received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul, Korea, following her M.S. in Biochemistry from the same institution.
Dr. Kim completed postdoctoral training at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where she trained in reproductive science and endocrinology. From 2005 to 2008, she conducted research in the laboratory of J. Larry Jameson, M.D., Ph.D., in the Division of Endocrinology. She then continued her postdoctoral training from 2008 to 2013 in the Division of Reproductive Science in Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, under the mentorship of Teresa K. Woodruff, Ph.D. She subsequently served as a Research Assistant Professor at Northwestern University from 2013 to 2018.
In 2018, Dr. Kim joined the University of Nebraska Medical Center as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. During her time at UNMC, she also held a courtesy appointment in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and was a member of the Molecular and Biochemical Etiology Program at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2024. In January 2026, Dr. Kim joined Rutgers New Jersey Medical School as a tenure-track Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Kim has also participated in several advanced professional development programs, including the National Cancer Institute-funded Transdisciplinary Research on Energetics and Cancer (TREC) Training Workshop at Yale Cancer Center and training through the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER).
