Irina Bancos, MD, MSc is a Professor of Medicine and works in the Pituitary-Adrenal-Gonadal subdivision of the Endocrinology Division at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She also holds a joint appointment with the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Bancos earned her medical degree from the Iuliu Hatieganu Medical University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Connecticut, followed by a fellowship in endocrinology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. In addition, as a Mayo Foundation Scholar, Dr. Bancos completed a 2-year research fellowship at the University of Birmingham in Birmingham, United Kingdom, where she received training in steroid profiling and adrenal disorders.
Dr. Bancos' clinical and research interests include adrenal and pituitary disorders and mechanisms of steroid regulation on health and disease. Dr. Bancos is a member of the A5 Adrenal Alliance and the European Network for the Study of Adrenal Tumours. She is a former Chair and Vice Chair of the Pituitary-Gonadal-Adrenal-Neuroendocrine Taskforce for the American Association for Clinical Endocrinology. Dr. Bancos has published more than 290 scientific articles and currently serves as the Deputy Editor for the European Journal of Endocrinology. She is passionate about translating research findings into actionable interventions for patients with adrenal disorders and mentoring the future generation of adrenal endocrinologists.
