Ernesto Nakayasu received his degree in Biological Sciences from University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, and PhD in Pathobiology from University of Texas at El Paso. After post-doctoral training at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and a period as Scientist at Purdue University, Ernesto returned to Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in 2015 where he is currently a senior scientist and the Leader of the Multiscale Systems Science Group. His research has been focused on the application of advanced mass spectrometry technology, such as proteomics, lipidomics, metabolomics, and analysis of protein post-translational modifications, to study complex biological systems. In diabetes, Ernesto has been studying biomarkers predictive of type 1 diabetes development, molecular mapping of the pancreas, and mechanisms of beta-cell dysfunction and death.
