Dr Iacovazzo (MD, PhD, FRCPath) is a clinician–scientist whose research focus is identifying novel genetic causes of familial and early-onset endocrine and neuroendocrine tumours. After graduating summa cum laude in Medicine from UCSC (Rome, Italy) and completing training in Endocrinology & Diabetes, he joined Prof Korbonits’ group in 2015 at Queen Mary University of London. He was awarded a Sir George Alberti Clinical Research Training Fellowship in 2016 to support his doctoral research which led to several advances in the field, including the identification of MAFA mutations as a novel cause of monogenic diabetes and familial pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours. After starting a second training programme in Histopathology and gaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists, he is now an NIHR Clinical Lecturer. His current work focuses on thyroid cancer genetics, including identifying novel genes involved in medullary thyroid carcinoma development.
