Dr Irina Bacila, PhD, PGDip, MRCPCH, has been a trainee of the Yorkshire and Humber School of Paediatrics since 2015, developing clinical and research experience in Paediatric Endocrinology. Between 2018-2022, she undertook the post of Clinical Research Fellow at The University of Sheffield, and during that time completed a PhD in Endocrinology, studying metabolic dysregulations in congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Interested in developing a career as a Clinical Academic, she obtained a position of NIHR Clinical Lectureship in Paediatrics at The University of Sheffield. She has been working in this post since 01/2024, dividing her time between academic work in the School of Medicine and Population Health, and clinical training in Paediatric Endocrinology at The Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Dr Bacila’s research activity to date has been focused on adrenal disease, disorders of steroid synthesis and disorders of sexual development, and more recently, childhood obesity.
