Wiebke Arlt is the Director of the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS), London, United Kingdom, one of two intramural research institutes of the UK Medical Research Council. The LMS is hosted by Imperial College London on their Hammersmith Campus and is dedicated to the investigation of mechanisms underlying metabolism, cell fate and their genetic and epigenetic regulation, with special consideration of sex differences, life course and environmental exposure. Wiebke leads a multi-disciplinary research group comprising biologists, biochemists, clinician scientists and computer scientists, investigating the regulation and role of steroid metabolism and action in health and disease, with a focus on the sex-specific role of androgens in mediating metabolic dysfunction. She is an honorary consultant endocrinologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust with a special interest in adrenal and reproductive disorders. Wiebke's scientific work has attracted several major national and international prizes including the Endocrine Society's Ernst Oppenheimer Award 2010 and Outstanding Clinical Investigator Award 2019. She was elected Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences in 2010
