Prof Mendonca is a highly distinguished endocrinologist with an extensive academic and clinical career spanning over 50 years, primarily affiliated with the University of São Paulo (USP). Her foundational education includes an M.D. from UFTM, followed by a Master's, Ph.D., and Habilitation from FMUSP, specializing in thyroid function and disorders of sex development (DSD).
She has held significant leadership roles, including Director of the Service of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Hospital das Clínicas (HC-FMUSP) and Senior Professor in Internal Medicine. Her career is marked by progression from resident to Full Professor, with long-term leadership of the Laboratory of Hormonal and Molecular Endocrinology.
An internationally recognized expert, particularly in DSD, she is ranked in the top 0.1% of scholars in this field. Her professional memberships include major societies like The Endocrine Society (USA). She has served on prestigious editorial boards, including the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
As a prolific mentor, she has supervised 24 Ph.D. theses as main advisor and overseen numerous Master's and postdoctoral researchers. Her impressive scientific output comprises over 500 peer-reviewed publications, with significant contributions to high-impact journals. Her research, consistently supported by grants from agencies like FAPESP and CNPq, focuses on the genetic and epigenetic basis of DSDs.
